| Seriously Gnarled Coffer |
This wonderful coffer is made from great big chunks of oak, probably about 250 years ago. The wood has petrified and become as hard as iron, and it is gnarly, warty and full of character but is hugley tactile and rounded on the edges. A truly rustic piece, the front panel is made from one huge piece of oak, and it has the original wooden hinges. From a storage point of view it is almost big enough to sleep in, and takes a huge volume of things.
Originally it would have been for grain storage, but now it is an object of beauty as well as useful.

| Carved Walnut Chair |
Without doubt the carving on this beautiful chair is some of the best I have ever seen - in fact it is a work of art in itself. If you look at the detailed photos you will begin to appreciate the quality of the master carver who made this chair.
I know it isn't Grinling Gibbons, (I wish it was), but its the nearest I (or you probably) will ever get to owning work of his quality. Although the carving of the bird, fruit and flowers on the top of the chair are wonderful, it carries on down the legs, and ends in a fabulous wooden castor.

| Carved Gilded Louis XV Chair |
This chair is of beautiful quality. It is intricately carved out of a dense, close grained wood such as walnut and then gilded.
This chair must have originally been commissioned for a very grand house maybe a grand chateau, maybe even the grandest chateau of all. Maybe someone of serious historical merit has once upon a time sat on this chair - it is that good! |

It is made of oak, with very attractive bevelled carved front panel. The back is made of two single wide boards (a sign of quality). It has original locks and hinges.

| Early Oak Chair - Fabulous patina |
This delightful early oak jointed backstool would have been made around 1680 - 1700 when there was a huge influx of talented chairmakers and craftsmen in order the rebuild London after the 1666 Great Fire of London. Their talents led to a new wave of designs of chairs (among other things) which had been previously strictly controlled by the various competitive Guilds (of mastercraftsmen). This makes this chair an exciting piece of interesting social history - just think - the tree that was felled to make it could easily have been growing in Queen Elizabeth 1 reign.
It has the most wonderful deep colour and patina, and although it has had some repairs over the years, (who wouldn't at the age it is) these all add to its history. It is a wonderfully evocative piece of history.

| Ercol Sideboard |
This is a dear little thing. A delightful example of Ercol at its best. It is a useful and distinctive piece of furniture, perhaps with Arts and Crafts influences in its design?
It has two useful drawers, and good cupboard space, with sweet little splayed legs giving it a very nice bit of character. It has its original Ercol label. Go well with a bit of G-Plan?? |
